Journalist, Ahmed Salkida, who has reported extensively on Boko
Haram, says that Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram is still
alive.
Salkida is the only Nigerian journalist that has ever been granted
interview by Boko Haram, the Islamic sect that has terrorized the
northern part of Nigeria for years.
Until the emergence of a new audio message allegedly from the sect's leader, Shekau was last heard from in March, when he released an audio message pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group.
He has not been seen in any of the sect recently released videos, fueling speculations that he might have been killed.
Also the Chadian president, Idriss Deby fueled this speculation on Tuesday August 11th when he said a new leader of Boko Haram, Mahamat Daoud, has taken over from Shekau.
Salkida has been accused of having ties with Boko Haram in the past which made him flee Nigeria to evade arrest.
