Shola Adebowale
And with surgical precision, as he arrived Lagos from Daura that fateful morning, General Buhari was arrested by the foursome majors (Umar Dangiwa, Lawan Gwadabe, Sambo Dasuki and Abdulmumuni Aminu),one of them looks familiar, right?. It was a classical palace coup, without any gun shot, unlike any other military putsch of that era in Africa.
This day in 2015, like a déjà vu, 30 years ago, then Lt. Col. Alechenu
Bonaventure David Mark as the governor of Niger state was the arrow head
of the intrigue by acting as the link between the tripartite locations
of the putsch (Lagos, Minna and Kensington (London) for his principal,
the unassuming, ever smiling Baba Evil Genius ‘Ngida.
Like a déjà vu ,30 years after, President Buhari arrived Abuja from Bavaria having 51 of his loyal deputies tricked into the International Conference Center waiting for him, while 57 ‘rebels’ convened and inaugurated the 8th National Assembly and executed a perfect unorthodox coup d’état, aye a perfect coup de theater, that some conscientious few now regarded as a coup de grâce that would ultimately end the agony imposed upon Pre Muhammadu Buhari by the collateral mess he just inherited and of which he has remained dazed, speechless,'cabinetless' almost 2 weeks after.
Some said, albeit curiously, that he was part of the scheming, to throw off the undue influence of his Party over him, after all he belongs to nobody but to everybody.
In actual fact, we might put up some veneer of calm, but the reality is that this government has started on a slippery false start. And the president is gradually being cut off for a kill, no doubt about that. Now, can we understand why Pre Jonathan asked fellow Nigerians to pray for Pre Buhari.May be because he knew by experience that no matter your good intentions and lofty zeal, once you enter that ‘boat’ in Abuja, you become ‘clueless’, ’witless’ and ‘brainless’. Ditto at age 72+ (alluding to the principle of ‘Fayoseism’), you are like the old land of Galilee, you surely would have a long history of past exploits in running up rugged hills, but then you can’t run the same race you took several years ago when all your faculties were still intact without an extra-large Pampers.
Now, both the ‘yam and the goat’ would now mingle very freely, then you must forget any pretentious hubris that has to do with fighting corruption and repositioning the nation against some obnoxious very powerful entrenched cabals that have hitherto held the nation incommunicado, impoverishing and sucking the blood of millions upon millions of Nigerians.
Apparently, it is extremely clear that in this part of the world, when you wanted to fight corruption, it must surely and certainly fight back very voraciously and very dirty.
Probably or perhaps, nothing has changed; the ‘Change’ mantra has been now been replaced with ‘Continuity’ by hook or by crook. Saraki was n(PDP),now n(APC),Ekweremadu was part of the old order of the sleazy past. Bonaventure David Mark remains the old serpentine reptilian Dracula that never dies in all ages, like Mercury in Romans mythology; he’s ever ready to do the biddings of his Principal in the dark. Unlike 30 years ago when he exploited the military apparatus, today the National Assembly is now his caduceus, with two snakes entwined around it –the Senate and House of Rep.
In all, it seems that the prophesy of president Jonathan is coming to fruition, ’in the future, Nigeria would surely praise me’…Indeed he deserved some praise for holding his party together for many years.
Under president Buhari, within the next few days in office, his Party would be left with nothing but a shred in unwholesome tatters. New alliance is on the way, his old friends in the trenches must give way to a new set of friends. His Deputy, must learn to play the ‘nutty Professor’ or quickly be thrown out.The broom is now the a sword, the sword of Damocles threatening to bring imminent disaster,I meant to say.
In other words, the reality check this day reveals that it is certainly one thing to win an election and come into power gun ho like an all-conquering emperor with 'I will change the world','where I find brick,I will replace with marble' ad infinitum, alas it is another thing to know how to paddle your sail in power and remains afloat from the mystery that surround power.
We live in an interesting time, hence, it is my humble desire to join the Italian in chorusing ‘bizzarro e fantastic’- it is bizzare and it is fantastic how fast the hands of time could ever flies.
