The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the Metropolitan police of London to Nigeria (Metro Police) to assist in the investigation of present and former governors, senators and other public office holders who are involved in financial misappropriation, money laundering or any other financial crimes.
Leadership reports that, the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, stated that the commission is determined to rid the country of corruption which necessitated the invitation of the UK police.
Speaking further, Lamorde noted that
the partnership between the two anti-crime agencies had begun a long
time ago and has contributed to the successful arrest, prosecution and
jailing of former Delta State governor, James Ibori among other
suucessful stories.
Lamorde, who declared no hiding
place for public office holders who are involved in corruption, also
explained that Nigerians should not expect instant arrest as the
investigation process would take a longer time to conclude
Lamenting the inability of the
commission to conclude some cases against former governors, ministers
and other public officers, Lamorde noted that criminal justice system in
the country is largely responsible as cases are always dragged on for
years without judgement.
