Reports from crews suggest as many as 10 items may have been located - including what might be a life raft, life jackets and long orange tubes.
According to AFP, Indonesian air force official Agus Dwi Putranto announced on Tuesday in Surabaya searchers may have found the site where the flight is believed to have downed.
Displaying photos of 10 large objects and a number of smaller white-coloured, still unidentified objects, Mr Agus said the items were seen about 10km from the location where the aircraft was last logged on radar.
He said there was confidence that the location of the aircraft had now been found.
There were no immediate reports of any survivors, although the reference to a life raft might raise hopes that people had survived the crash.
