Government declares war on hoodlums in Oshodi, arrests 118 at 1:00am yesterday

106 males and 12 females hoodlums were yesterday arrested around 1:00am in Oshodi by the State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) unit in Oshodi motor parks and its environs. The hoodlums are said to have been terrorizing the popular market and its environs and also robbing commuters of their valuables. The raid was carried out by the state government as part of its efforts to boost security in Lagos state and said it won't stop until Oshodi is in better form.

Bulletproof car scandal: At last, EFCC quizzes Stella Oduah

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday quizzed a former Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, for over five hours at their Idiagbon House headquarters in Abuja.

Investigation revealed that Oduah arrived at Idiagbon House around 10am and left at 3.30pm after being granted a provisional bail.

An EFFC source said the former minister was asked questions and thereafter asked to make a statement 

that could aid the commission’s ongoing investigation into the purchase of two BMW bulletproof cars by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority at a controversial sum of N255m. The Intelligence and Special Operations Section of the commission was instructed to ensure an in-depth investigation of the scandal.

Meet the builder who eats bricks and is addicted to dining on debris (Photos)

This is Indian builder Pakkirappa Hunagundi and he is addicted to eating bricks! The 30-year-old became hooked on devouring non-edible objects after first developing the acquired taste when he was 10-years-old.

For 20 years he has consumed up to three kilos of debris a day, including mud and gravel, he finds lying around his village in Karnataka. But despite his strange eating disorder - thought to be caused by a condition called Pica - Pakkirappa insists he hasn't suffered any ill-effects. And he wants to use his strange eating
habits to make some money for his family by travelling across India showcasing his talents.

MirrorUK reports that the oddball eater causally chews on freshly baked bricks he finds scattered around his village. And he uses nothing more than a glass of water to help digest the building material which he says tastes "A1" - an Indian term meaning the best.
Fussy eater Pakkirappa said:

"I love eating them. It has become a part of my life. I started at the age of 10. Now it feels like a necessity to me. I can skip meals, but not bricks or mud. I have suffered no side effects. My teeth are absolutely fine. I can bite into the hardest stone without a problem."

Ololade Rabiu: a 46-year-old mother of six - enters a hole to drill a water well at Igbogbo

Fortified by a faith in God and a Guinness stout -- or a tot of something stronger -- Ololade Rabiu reckons she must have dug hundreds of wells in her time.

But the 46-year-old mother of six is a rarity in Nigeria, where forging deep into the red earth to find precious drinking water has historically been a male preserve.

"I am extremely happy that I am the only woman so far in this profession of well-drilling. I love and enjoy it," she told AFP at her home in Igbogbo, about 40 kilometres (25 miles) east of Lagos.

"There is no well I cannot drill or enter," she said proudly.

Megacity Lagos and its surrounding state are crippled by over-burdened and neglected infrastructure, with safe, clean drinking water in particularly short supply.

Pay Sanusi N50m & tender a public apology! Court tells FG

The Federal High court in Lagos today has declared the seizure of suspended CBN Governor, Mr Lamido Sanusi’s passport unlawful. The court asked the Federal Government to return the document and tender a public apology to Sanusi, stressing that the intelligence agents broke the law when they seized his passport. It also asked that N50m be paid to him for damages.

The court further restrained the Federal Government through its agents or representatives from arresting and detaining Mr Sanusi without following due process of law, and restrained the government from interfering with Mr Sanusi’s freedom of movement.

Authorities at the U.S. Army base at Fort Hood, Texas are reporting gunfire at the facility, with U.S. officials confirming multiple casualties.

Officials at the huge base, the scene of a mass shooting in 2009, confirmed Wednesday's shooting after it was first reported on social media. The Associated Press -- quoting a U.S. Defense official -- is reporting one fatality and as many as 14 others wounded. There are multiple reports saying the suspected shooter is dead.The White House said President Barack Obama has been informed of the shootings and will receive updates through the evening.Television footage showed helicopters overhead as military police searched the area. Nearby civilian police agencies were reported searching vehicles and sealing the perimeter of the base, located south of the city of Waco.Fort Hood was the scene of a mass shooting spree in 2009. Thirteen people were killed and more than 30 others wounded when an Army psychiatrist opened fire on personnel.After that shooting, the Pentagon ordered tightened security at all U.S. bases.

Ogun Baby factory: Pregnant teenager delivers baby girl

One of the nine pregnant teenagers rescued from a baby making factory at Akute in Ifo local government of Ogun state about two weeks ago, has delivered a baby girl.

The Anti Crime team attached to Ajuwon Division of Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force had last two Fridays following intelligence gathering, stormed a baby making factory where pregnant women were kept to produce babies for sales and arrested the owner, Mrs Angella Chigozie,39, and also rescued nine pregnant women of ages between 16 and 22 years within the facility, including the one that just delivered.

It was learnt that gathered that the pregnant teenager delivered a baby girl last Sunday at the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, after a prolonged labour.

Exposed: Strange helicopter drops food, arms & aid for Boko Haram

Top political and local leaders in Borno and Yobe states have disclosed that helicopters drop ammunition and food, including medicine to areas known to be strongholds of the members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria.

The leaders said the government could not claim ignorance of the development and that it is indeed a bad omen if a convoy of about 20 to 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles could move freely without being detected despite the so called curfew in place.

“Are the authorities unaware of helicopters dropping arms and ammunition, food and medical supplies to areas well known to be strong holds of the insurgents?

“How were the insurgents able to attack the Maiduguri Air-Force Base and demobilise as well as burn planes and other military installations despite existing state of emergency and curfew in the town? How could 20 to 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles move in a convoy freely with subsisting curfew and still go undetected?

Science writer Sam Kean believes a yawn can reveal true love, as humans don't pick up contagious yawning until 4 or 5.

Locally-brewed wine killed six at a wedding in kano

Six persons have died in Kano after taking a locally-brewed wine during a wedding party.

An eyewitness told reporters Monday that the incident happened at about 10:30pm on Sunday, adding that the deceased, who were all males aged between 20 and 22 drank the substance during the party.

The eyewitness said the deceased died on their way to a hospital.

Confirming the incident, Kano State Police Command spokesman, Musa Magaji Majia, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said, “The police have since commenced investigation into the matter with a view to finding out the cause of the incident.”

“On receiving the report, we invited the groom and he is currently assisting us in our investigation. But I cannot confirm the number of the dead until we finish our investigation.”

Akwa Ibom Child theft: Catholic Priest, 20 others held for alleged involvement

Officials of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Akwa Ibom State paraded yesterday a Catholic priest and 20 others for their alleged involvement in child theft.

The State Deputy Director, Fubara Duke, said Rev Okono Joseph of St Peter’s Parish of Owerri Catholic Diocese in Imo State, was arrested for buying two boys (three and four years) at N900,000.

Duke, who spoke at the DSS headquarters in Uyo, said the self-styled man of God bought the children from an agent sponsored by Uche Joel Canice Onyekedru from Ogiri in Imo State.

Other suspects are:
Mercy Etim; Collins Edet; Caroline Nkwonna; Cecilla Ngene; Eleka Okoye; Nwaonu Okoro; Adaobi Onyeke; Elizabeth Onubogu, Umeh, Ebele Nwadika, Florence Onyodobi, Emenka Anaefuna, Nnamdi Onuchukwu, Ifeoma Gladys Nweze, Chiyneyen Roseline, Idam Vivian Ogbona and David Ogbuagu.The Assistant Director said in the last eight months, over 60 children had been sold.

Duke said the leader of the syndicate, Onyekedru, could not remember the number of children he has sold.

“He usually operates in conjunction with agents, who liaise with government officials in children homes and maternity hospitals.

“The investigation took our men to Abia, Imo and Ebonyi states before they arrested some of the suspects. Over 20 children were rescued.

“Though some of the suspects are still at large, efforts are being intensified to ensure that they are all arrested.”

He advised parents to be wary of strangers.

A Justice at Kano State High Court yesterday sentenced a former banker with Mainstreet Bank, Hadiza Mustafa to five years imprisonment for diverting a customer’s N10m for personal use. Hadiza who was arraigned by theEconomic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC alongside Mahmud Sule on a 10-count charge that borders on forgery and theft of depositor’s fund, was convicted on 9 of the counts.

The Justice sentenced her to 12 months imprisonment on count 2 and six months imprisonment on counts 3 to 10. She is equally to a pay a fine of N120,000. The judge further ordered that Hadiza should pay the sum of N13,000,000 (Thirteen Million Naira) in restitution to the bank.

Police officer dismissed for raping a 4-year-old girl in Plateau

According to a Punch report, a policeman attached to the Plateau State Police Command was dismissed yesterday from the police force after being found guilty of luring and raping a 4-year-old girl identified as Helen .

Around 9pm on March 26th, corporal Damudu Bzibu (pictured above), allegedly lured the little girl and raped her in Kassa Barakin Ladi Local Government Area.

According to the Plateau State Police Commissioner, Chris Olakpe, who paraded Damudu alongside other criminals, the little girl's father found blood gushing from her vagina and upon serious enquiry, the girl told him it was uncle Damudu that raped her. The Commissioner said Damudu was immediately given an orderly room treatment, found guilty and is now dismissed from the force. He is to be charged to court soon.

Also amongst the criminals paraded yesterday was a man, Benjamin Tofa, who killed his wife for not accepting his sexual advances.
