Rivers probe: Go and defend yourself, Wike tells Amaechi

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has reacted to Amaechi's decision not to appear before a panel of Inquiry. The Governor called on Amaechi, to go and defend himself before the judicial commission of inquiry sitting in the state. Gov. Wike said that it was wrong for the former governor to describe the commission as illegal even when the court had ruled that the panel was in order. 

The governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, said he would not take issues with the former governor over the setting up of the judicial commission of inquiry. 

It is necessary for Amaechi to defend himself on certain issues concerning how the state was managed during his tenure.

The Incumbent Governor explained that Ameachi was put to shame when the court pronounced that nothing was wrong with the setting up of a judicial commission of inquiry to probe the immediate past administration.

A road accident in Swaziland has killed 38 girls and seriously injured 20 others who were on their way to a traditional ceremony where King Mswati III can choose a new wife, pro-democracy activists reported.
The accident happened on Friday night when their open truck smashed into a car on the road between the tiny kingdom's two main cities, Mbabane and Manzini, en route to the traditional Reed Dance.

"A total of 38 young girls have been pronounced dead, with more than 20 others seriously injured," Swaziland Solidarity Network spokesman Lucky Lukhele said.

Two armed robbers were shot dead by the police on Wednesday, 26th of August after they robbed The PUNCH office located at Mile One, Diobu, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to Punch, two armed robbers of a gang of 4 have been killed after a robbery operation on the Punch office at Mile One, Diobu, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The armed robbers stormed into the circulation office of the media organisation at about 1.30pm and asked the Circulation Manager, Mr. Raji Tajudeen, to surrender a bag containing N500,000 to them.

 

They took the bag from him at gun point and exited the office. Mr. Raji Tajudeen speaking to Punch correspondents believes he was trailed from the bank as he met two physically built men with one of them demanding for the funds with a gun pointed at him.

 

He said, “While the two of them were searching for the money, one of my friends who was outside, noticed that all was not well in my office. He decided to ask from a distance what was happening. I winked at him and gave him a sign, which he understood.

Sources in Nigeria’s security circles, who spoke to Daily Trust, said the visa was issued by a Foreign Service official in Beirut based on that invitation. Sources said without a letter of invitation, the ISIS leader’s visa application would not have been approved.

Discussions within the security circles in Nigeria centred on a popular middle-eastern company operating in Nigeria as the originator of the invitation letter for the issuance of the visa. A source said allegations that a bribe of about $8,000 was paid by Al-Assir to obtain the visa has not been confirmed.

Doctors in China are set to remove a 'unicorn horn' from the head of an 87 year old woman named Liang Xiuzhen in Guiyan village in Ziyang City, in south-west China’s Sichuan Province. A woman in Delta State last Friday lost her only child to her pet dog who hauled the four month old to death.

 

Tragedy struck on Friday, August 21, in Asaba, Delta State, when a 37-year-old house wife, identified as Maureen Akowe, lost her four-month-old baby to her dog

 

According to reports, the four- month-old baby was driven in the mother’s car alongside the dog to a popular supermarket along Okpanam Road, Asaba, where the house wife had gone for shopping for the baby’s upkeep.

 

Report says the unsuspecting nursing mother left the baby, a nanny and the dog inside the car and wound down the windows to allow ventilation into the car before moving into the supermarket.

 

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered from witnesses that while she was busy shopping, the dog allegedly made straight for the little baby to eat her up while the nanny screamed for help but all to no avail.

 

The shouts by the nanny attracted two security personnel at the supermarket to the car but by which time the baby, identified as Chinonso, had been bitten severally on the stomach by the dog, leaving the baby in a pool of blood.

At least 16 fighters were diagnosed in al-Mayadeen city in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, medical sources told Kurd news agency ARA News.

 

They are now being held in a quarantine centre after being infected with HIV from two Morrocan women.

 

"IS leadership is planning to assign suicide attacks for its militants who are tested positive with AIDS,” a civil rights activist in al-Mayadeen told the agency.

Is masturbation a sin or not? As a Christian, I’ve always wondered why the church believes it is a sin. Pastors always quote a part of the Bible to lend credence to the belief that it is a sin.

This passage talks about a certain woman, who had to marry her late husband’s brother in order to continue the family lineage. However, her brother-in-law did not want to impregnate her, so while having sex, just before orgasm, he would withdraw and spill semen on the floor instead of ejaculating inside the woman. God struck the man down because of his wickedness in not wanting to impregnate the woman.

Every time I read that passage, I do not understand how anyone would use it as an explanation for masturbation being a sin. The man wasn’t masturbating, he was having sex! God was punishing this man for something other than masturbation. Some also use this passage to discourage contraception (the contraception issue is a topic for another day).

The Bible also mentions in detail, all kinds of sexual acts, perversions and sins, both Old and New Testaments. Why was there no mention of masturbation?

Drama as Governor Almakura's Witnesses Turn Against Him at Election Tribunal

The ongoing proceedings at the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Tribunal witnessed a dramatic turn as Governor Almakura's witnesses took to the witness box to openly testify in favour of Labaran Maku as winner of the election in their respective areas.

Some witnesses of Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa state have reportedly turned against him to support his opponent, the former Information Minister, Labaran Maku during the ongoing proceedings of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Tribunal where Almakura's gubernatorial victory at the recently concluded polls is being challenged.

 

The odd situation happened when Almakura's witnesses shockingly testified in favour of Labaran Maku in the witness box claiming the later won in their respective areas.

It was learnt that the court was thrown into mild drama when the first witness to appear for Almakura from Arutu in Doma LGA under cross Examination by Maku’s Lawyers led by Solomon Akuma SAN averred that it was Maku not Almakura that won the election in his area.

Court jails fuel station owners for illegal oil transactions

 

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the arrest of 2 fuel station owners, Lookman Onabanjo and Lukman Gafan, for allegedly dealing in petroleum products loaded from vandalised pipelines.

50-year-old Onabanjo and Gafan, 52, are the Chief Executive Officers of Gaffa Oil and Gas Limited and Bugon Oil and Gas Limited, respectively.

The 2 were remanded shortly after their separate arraignment before Justice Mohammed Yunusa.

Arraigned and also jailed along with Onabanjo were Sani Idris, 34, and Bode Jonah, 39.

One Solomon Afolabi, 30; and Adesimisola Ogunsanya, 36, were also arraigned along with Gafan and remanded with him.

In the charge filed against Onabanjo and his co-accused, the police prosecutor, M.O. Omosun, alleged that the accused were, on August 15, 2015, caught with 16,000 litres of petrol loaded in several 50 litre jerrycans.

Nigerian Govt writes India to see Nigerian ISIS suspects

The Nigerian embassy in Delhi, India, has written to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see the 2 Nigerians that were arrested in Punjab recently while on their way to Pakistan, allegedly to join the Islamic State terrorist group.

The two suspects from Kano, identified as Imran Kabeer and Sani Jamiliu, are currently being detained by the Punjab Police in India.

 

The India police had arrested the two youths on suspicions that they were on their way to join ISIS and that they attempted to enter Pakistan without valid travel documents.

The suspects, who live in New Delhi, came to India on student visas about a year ago. Imran was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Karnataka State Open University, while Sani was a Bachelor of Science student of the Kerala-based Mahatma Gandhi University.

The Brazilian ghost town where almost everyone has to live indoors as 600 of its 800 inhabitants suffer disorder which causes them to lose their faces if they see the sun.

 

A rare genetic disorder has enveloped a Brazilian village. Araras in the State of Sao Paolo is a now a ghost town because most residents suffer from "Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP)", which means their skin is unable to repair damage caused by ultraviolet light.

Out of the 800 people in the village, 600 are affected by XP. Of those, 20 have full-blown symptoms and are susceptible to an aggressive form of skin cancer.

Mourners in a Village of Chikamba in Jambezi, Zimbabwe Gogo Tshuma were thrown into shock when a 90-year-old dead woman resurrected during her funeral procession.

 

However, it was learnt that the resurrected woman later gave up the ghost again.

 

A source from the village said the incident has got people relating different versions of the strange occurrence.

 

The source is quoted to have said: “Gogo Tshuma was over 90. When she died, people gathered waiting for her children to come for the funeral.

 

“They arrived at home a day after her death and brought a coffin. On the second day, which was supposed to be the burial day, Gogo MaTshuma came back to life.”

Former Bayelsa State governor and state leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Timipre Silva has accused the immediate president Goodluck Jonathan of not contributing anything to the state while he was the country’s president. 

 

Silva, who took over from Jonathan as governor of Bayelsa stated this while speaking at the mega rally of the APC where the current state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), retired Colonel Sam Inokoba , and former managing director of the Niger Delta Development commission (NDDC), Timi Alaibe, decamped to the APC.

 

“The Brass LNG that was not given to us by our son will be given to us when APC takes over.  Development that was not brought to us by our son will be brought to us. The East-West road that was not completed by our son will be completed, let them show me one single project our son did for Bayelsa. Show me one single road or show me half road he did. He is I will do, I will do.  If you cannot show me, why should you continue to support the PDP? ” he quizzed.
