It is believed that the death toll has increase in an attack on communities in Langtang South Local Government of Plateau State has risen to 70, and this is in addition to the over 7,000 that have been displaced.

Hon. Beni Lar, Member representing Langtang North/South Constituency in the House of Representatives, who confirmed this during a visit to the affected parts, said several people were still missing.

She said, “From what I gathered, the Divisional Crime Officer is still missing, seven thousand people were displaced, while almost 70 lost their lives.

Nigerians president signs law imposing up to 14 years jail for gay relationship

"Beyond even prohibiting same sex marriage, this law is dangerously restricts freedom of assembly... and expression for all Nigerians,"he said in a statement.

  Nigerians president Goodluck Jonathan signed a bill on Monday that criminalizes same-sex relationships,defying western pressure over gay right and provoking US criticism.

  The bill,which contains penalties of up to 14years in prison and bans gay marriage,same-sex "amorous relationships" and membership of gay rights groups,was passed by the national assembly last May but Jonathan had delayed signing it into law.
  A presidential spokesmen told Reuters he had now done so. As in much of sub-Saharan Africa,anti-gay sentiment and persecution of homosexuals is rife in Nigeria, so the new legislation is likely to be popular. Jonathan is expected to seek re-election in 2015 but is under pressure after several dozen lawmakers and a handful of regional governors defected to the opposition in the past two months. under existing Nigeria federal law,sodomy is punishable by jail, but this bill legislates for a much broader crackdown on homosexual people,who live a largely underground existence.

Old woman accused of being a 'witch bird' escapes lynching in Lagos [Photo]

An elderly woman escaped lynching on Wednesday after being accused of being a bird and witch in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State. 

According to Punch,residents of Ojo Road, where the purported transformation took place,said the woman was a black bird before suddenly turning into a human being.Hundreds of residents were said to have gathered around the woman to lynch her.

An eyewitness, Chike, said he was sitting in front of a compound with his girlfriend when they saw three black birds flying.He said it seemed as if the birds were involved in a fight and as he was watching, suddenly, one of the birds fell into a moving van belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company while the other two flew away.

Said most of them(final year medical students) finished practical lectures held at the Jos university teaching hospital (Juth) which is close to terminus market and were returning when they got caught up in the blast..

The bear, lion and tiger were discovered in an Atlanta home’s basement and confiscated from a drug dealer’s home at a very young age by police officers during a drug raid.

In 2001, the BLT (bear, lion and tiger) was sent to Noah’s Ark. At only a few months old, a North American Black Bear, Leo an African Lion and Shere Hkhan a Bengal Tiger, were frightened, malnourished and infected with internal and external parasites when they were brought to Noah’s Ark by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a nonprofit that cares for animals in need.

Now, the BLT are the only bear, lion and tiger in the world that live in the same enclosure.

It follow a six year legal saga in which Mr Rybolovlev, who made his billions through a successful fertiliser business, bitterly contested Ms Rybolovlev’s claims to two of the most expensive properties in the USA and a £100million Greek island.She divorced him on the grounds of infidelity.

Now Mr Rybolovlev must sign a cheque for the incredible sum in the Swiss city of Geneva, where Ms Rybolovlev lives in a lakeside mansion.

This Nigerian man infected 200 men with HIV

A Nigerian man has been arrested and charged with “reckless exposure to HIV/AIDS” after he admitted to having unprotected s*x with up to 200 young men without disclosing his HIV/AIDS status, triggering alarm among health officials.

Solomon Umukoro, 36, was arrested in Africa after his former live-in lover came forward to Nigerian officials to file a complaint that Umukoro had knowingly infected him with HIV/AIDS. The alleged victim, 28, identified in the complaint as D.B., said that he tested positive for HIV in March of this year, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Nigerian/African court by Det. Barry Mills.

Umukoro was arraigned today, but did not enter a plea. A preliminary hearing was set for Jun. 26, a representative for Nigerian court told South African News Daily. Bond was set by Judge Mufasa Mitchell at 1 million dollars.

Wazobia FM’s OPJ arrested for urinating in public

The 54-year-old Pius-Junior Opute, often referred to as OPJ, is a presenter at Wazobia FM was allegedly caught urinating in a drainage at Marwa Bus Stop, Lekki, Lagos and resisting arrest.

Yesterday Tuesday 20th May 2014, he appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, according to NAN – News Agency of Nigeria.

Prosecutors allege he committed the offence on May 12th by 8 PM, and refused to be arrested and obstructed a free flow of traffic around the Lekki Toll Plaza.

He is facing a two-count charge of urinating in a drainage and resisting arrest. The offence contravened Sections 117 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and Chapter E5, (9e) of the Environmental Sanitation Law of Lagos State, 2011

He plead not guilty and was granted a bail of N20,000. The case has been adjourned to June 18 for further hearing

Another escaped Chibok girl narrates her ordeal in Sambisa forest

Another escaped victim, identified as Godiya Simon, who was among the over 234 school girls that were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram members on April 14, yesterday narrated her ordeal in Sambisa Forest.

Speaking to journalist in Maiduguri, on how she escaped from the dreaded sambisa forest, she explained that after their kidnapping, they were made to walk through the forest where they were later kept in an open place inside the forest.

"The place we were kept was not just right and I felt that these people might kill us. We heard many bad things about them. I then began to plan how to escape. I told them that I wanted to urinate which they said no to, but after I kept repeating it, they allowed me to go along with three others. That was the time we escaped from the camp" she said.

26 women having affairs with Catholic priests beg Pope to permit priests to have sex

A group of 26 Italian women who claim to be having affairs with Catholic priests have written a joint letter to Pope Francis begging him to end the Catholic Church's ban on priests having sex and getting married.

The women, who met through a Facebook campaign, wrote to the Pope requesting a meeting to put forward their case, claiming they were just "a small sample" of the many partners of priests "living in silence".

"We love these men, they love us, and in most cases, despite all efforts to renounce it, one cannot manage to give up such a solid and beautiful bond," they wrote.

"We humbly place our suffering at your feet in the hope that something may change, not just for us, but for the good of the entire Church," added the unnamed women in the letter that was first reported by the website Vatican Insider.

Debate is growing on the merits of ordering priests to abstain from sex and marriage, which is designed to allow nothing interfere with their close relationship with God.

This little girl’s tongue wouldn’t stop growing after 3 corrective operations

A little girl born with a rare genetic condition which caused her to be born with an over-sized tongue is preparing to start school after three pioneering operations to correct the problem.

Olivia Gillies was born with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS), which affects one in 15,000 babies born in the UK.

Her mother Emma, 29, and father Ian, 40, were shocked when they discovered their unborn daughter’s condition during a routine scan.

But four years later the couple are preparing to wave Olivia off for her first day at primary school, after the youngster had three operations to reduce the size of her tongue.
