Death penalty proposed for fatal cyber-crimes in new bill

A death sentence has been proposed on persons who hack into the Critical National Information Infrastructure or computer networks resulting in the loss of lives.

The proposal is contained in the Cyber Crime Bill 2013, which is before the House of Representatives.

However, where there is no loss of lives but the offender causes “grievous bodily injury” to another person, the bill recommends a prison term of not less than 15 years.

Using any computer network for terrorism purposes also attracts life sentence.

HELL was let loose on Wednesday at Alaro area of Ibadan, Oyo State, when okada riders and hoodlums numbering over 100 stormed a building in the area and injured some people with broken bottles while the building was also vandalised.

Not only that, a brand new Toyota Sequia Sport Utility vehicle worth N7million was destroyed with all its glasses broken and the body dented by the hoodlums, while the landlady, an 81-year-old whose name was given as Mrs Oke, was seriously beaten.

The Nollywood actress in the middle of theft scandal, Yetunde Akilapa, narrates her side of the story in an interview with Encomium magazine. She says the whole incident on January 12 was a mystery to her but she has been delivered by God. Excepts from her interview below >>>>

How did the incidence of January 12 2014 happen. It was reported that you were caught in the dining room of a house in Magodo, and the owner of the house met you there with suspicion that you are there for the wrong reasons. Can you shed more light on the story?

Mary J blige's father stabbed in the neck by ex-girlfriend in a critical condition

Mary J. Blige's father is in critical condition after being stabbed during a domestic dispute with a former girlfriend. Thomas Blige, 63, was stabbed three times, including once to the neck, on Thursday morning after the altercation at his home at the Arbors of Battle Creek apartment complex in Michigan.

According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, police were called to the scene at 6.58am where they found the victim along with the knife used in the attack in his apartment.

A Hong Kong billionaire reportedly just doubled down on his offer of a massive amount of money for any man who can win the heart of his lesbian daughter.

Cecil Chao first made headlines in September 2012 when he announced the initial offer of $65 million after his daughter, Gigi Chao, reportedly eloped with her female partner in France.

Chao then told The Financial Times in January 2013 that the offer still stood, and if a man could woo his daughter he “will give them a moderately deluxe life.” He added, “I would not force her to marry a man. But obviously I would, from my point of view, prefer her to be married and to have grandchildren.”

The Imam of Federal College of Technology, Yaba Mosque, Imam Saheed Salmon has said that Islam also believes in the second coming of Jesus Christ, emphasising that any Muslim who does not believe in it is not a true follower of Prophet Muhammed.

Salmon made this known at a special lecture held at the Lagos Central Mosque, Tinubu, saying, Jesus is a messenger of God and would still return to a mosque in Damascus.“The second coming of Jesus Christ is a doctrine that every Muslim must believe. The teachings of prophet Muhammed talks extensively about this.

“The Qua’ ran Chapter 4:157-159 teaches this but the teachings of Islam does not support that Jesus was killed or resurrected, rather, he was raised by Almighty Allah to his majesty.

“Jesus is coming again to refute the claim of the Jews that he was crucified and to correct the doctrine of the Christians that he is the son of God.

“Again, the second coming of Jesus is to establish that there is a close relationship between Prophet Muhammed and Jesus himself.”

Also speaking, Chief host and organiser of the lecture, Amir Ajala Kamardeen noted that he is under the obligation as a true Muslim to educate the public and to correct any misconception about Islam.

“Jesus is a prophet and messenger of Allah and as a true Muslim, we are bound to believe all prophets of Allah.

“The holy book ,Qur’an points to the fact that the second coming of Jesus Christ is a sign of end time but there are some group of Muslims in Harvard University and in Cairo known as the fatimists and also Ahmadists who are saying otherwise, so, I have put it upon myself to correct them,” he said.

OPC MEMBER ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY

A member of a faction of the O’odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Abiodun Olarewaju, was among four armed robbers paraded at Lagos Police headquarters.
According to the Lagos Police image maker, DSP Ngozi Braide, who did not provide information on whether the suspect belongs to Dr. Fredrick Fasehun’s faction or that of Gani Adams, the robbers had separately robbed at another location on the particular day before storming the Christ Authority and Power Evangelical Ministry (CAPEM).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a Lagos State University graduate for cloning the Facebook accounts of prominent Nigerians and using same to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
Anthony Ezechukwu, 38, had successfully used the names of Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; wives of Lagos State Governor, Dame Abimbola Fashola, Federal Capital Territory Minister, Aisha Bala Mohammed and the Director of the Abuja Geographical Information Systems, AGIS, Jamilah Tangaza to transact his illegal business and smile to the bank
Investigation revealed that in each of the instances, Ezechukwu devised clever baits to lure his victims. Once he successfully opened a Facebook account with the false identity of a Mrs. Fashola, he began to send out messages soliciting for friendship, which yielded enormous responses from innocent respondents, who wanted to seize the moment to be friend to the Lagos First Lady.
But on noticing the stream of friends on the Facebook, the suspect started directing them to ‘her personal assistant’, who in turn demanded for various sums of money from them to connect them with influential people in government and the society.

A YOUNG woman has been gang-raped by up to 13 men on the orders of a village court simply because she fell in love with a man from a different religion.

The 20-year-old was said to have brought shame on her community and when her family could not pay a fine she was sexually attacked on the orders of village elders.
Her boyfriend was tied up in the town square and unable to come to her aid as she was bundled into a mud hut.
There, she was assaulted by around a dozen men and is now in a serious condition in hospital after losing a lot of blood in the incident in rural India.
She told local reporters: “The morol (head of the court) ordered that I be enjoyed by the men of the village. Following his orders, at least 10-12 people, including (some) members of a single family, continuously raped me. I lost count of how many times I was raped.”

A fisherman from New Zealand was left baffled when he caught this see-through shrimp-like creature swimming near the surface of the ocean.

Stewart Fraser was fishing with sons Conaugh and Finn 43 miles north off the North Island’s Karikari Peninsula when he spotted the translucent ‘shrimp’ floating near the top of the water.

A robbery suspect, Mr Godwin Olukporibe, has confessed that he was forced to form a robbery gang when his father-in-law asked him to pay N1.5 million bride price before he could marry his pregnant girlfriend.

The suspect was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Lagos State Police Command, following a tip-off that he was in a hotel with his girlfriend in Ibadan, Oyo State, western Nigeria.
Olukporibe allegedly claimed his father-in-law initially refused to give his daughter’s hand in marriage despite the fact that he had impregnated her and wanted to marry her.

The suspect said that it was after a lot of persuasion that he allow them marry but with the condition that he must give him N1.5 million as bride price.

TV/Radio personality Toke Makinwa married her longtime beau on Wednesday January 15th at a private wedding. She's just released her wedding photos, accompanied by a beautiful message.

A construction worker held his girlfriend hostage on a Chinese rooftop with a meat cleaver for five hours after her parents reportedly refused to approve their marriage.

Hundreds of onlookers and armed police watched as the man stripped to his underwear and ordered his girlfriend to do the same so she would be shamed in front of their neighbours.

He announced he was going to kill her and claimed the 29-year-old regularly had affairs when he went to work, according to various local media reports.

Other nominees included in the list are, current Nigerian Ambassador to China, Aminu Wali and former leader of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Wakil from Borno. Mr. Gusau is expected to fill the position of Defence Minister, a position which is currently vacant.

TOUCHING STORY - 3 Sisters marry on the same day, 12hrs to their mom’s death

It was a very beautiful thing to behold as three sisters from Snellville, Georgia got married at the same time so their dying mother could attend, just 12 hours before she passed away.

The girls, Sarah, Kaylee and Jodie Swales - aged 19, 21 and 22 who were already engaged had learned that their mother's breast cancer had worsened and they agreed to hold a joint wedding on October 26 last year. But their mother, Becky Swales' condition deteriorated, so the girls brought the ceremony forward to fulfill her final wish of seeing them walk down the aisle.

Surrounded by friends and family, and with their mother Becky and father Otis in the front row, the sisters took turns to say their vow as the others watched.

'I rape young children to elongate my life’ – 71-year-old serial rapist cConfesses

A 71-year-old serial rapist, identified as Alhaji Ganiyu has revealed that he sleeps with young girls to prolong his earthly sojourn. Alhaji Ganiyu who is a hunter and a night guard was recently arrested for molesting a seven-year-old primary one pupil, (name withheld) inside his one room apartment after luring her with biscuit. He was arrested by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), after the victim’s mother rushed to the security agency for help.

Giving his statement, Ganiyu admitted to the crime saying his actions were carried out so he’d live longer, adding that he regrets all his actions.

“I slept with young girls to elongate my stay on earth. That is all I need to extend my stay. It was not for ritual or money making as people are saying. All the same, I regret all my actions,” he said.

You recently won ‘Legends of Nollywood’award. How do you feel being recognised as a legend in the industry?
I was on location in Enugu when the award was held and as you can see, ‘Best Female Act, Mirror in the Sun, Clarion Chukwurah’. The award was received on my behalf by my publicist, Cornell Udofia. This award is yearly organised by Paul Obazele’s company, Royal Pictures. Frank Rajah, I think was part of it as well as Zack Orji and many others. I appreciate the award having been given this recognition for the role I
played in the now rested ‘Mirror in the Sun.’ But I think that the name of the award and the work for which it was given is rather misplaced.

2013 Big Brother Africa’s Ghanian representative, Elikem Kumordzie, has been taken to court on adultery charges by Nii Odartey Lamptey.
The former Black Stars Striker, Lamptey, has accused 2013 BBA housemate of going to bed with his wife.
He reportedly raised the matter and took legal actions against Elikem when he found out that his wife, whom he has been married to for 20 years, was having illicit affairs.

Fast rising actress, Chizzy Alichi, tells Ademola Olonilua about her career and how she handles male advances

How did you get into the movies?

I have always wanted to be an actress. One day, I was passing by and I saw Actors Guild of Nigeria banner at New Berries Park, Enugu, I went in there and made some enquiries. The next day, I registered and started going for auditions. That was in November 2010. I got my first role the same day I went for an audition.

What was the title of the first movie you featured in?

A female friend informed me about the audition, so on getting there, they were almost rounding off. When I got there, the director called me and they auditioned and casted me immediately. Though I was so nervous because naturally I am a very shy person, I tried my best to perform well. They gave me the role principally because of my height. The title of the movie is Magic Money. I was paid N6,000. I acted alongside Mercy

Johnson and Bob-Manuel Udokwu. I was so happy, nervous and excited.

What did you want to become while growing?

I have always wanted to be an actress. I used my lunch money to rent films and would stay hungry. I didn’t allow my shyness to hinder me. I was so determined that I even started working on myself like staying in front of a full length mirror to rehearse and also in front of my friends.

Caught in the act: Cheating couple attacked with machete ?while having $ex? in Ondo

A jealous lover has been arrested by police in Ondo after it was alleged that he had killed a man his girlfriend had been cheating with.
Olusola Akinmiwasi, 35, is said to have attacked one Oriola Akinduko with a machete yesterday and inflicted a deep cut on his head which subsequently resulted in his death.
The accused is said to have barged into a room where his girlfriend and the deceased were in the act of sexual intercourse, at about 1am, and begun his assault.
The unidentified lady survived the incident but Oriola later succumbed to his injuries.

What informed your recent write-up titled ‘2014: Relevance of a paradigm shift’? Is it a prelude to announcing your intention ahead of 2015 presidential election?
No, I started writing for the media about a year ago. This article is just one of my regular write-ups. It has nothing to do with my presidential ambition. That said, I will run in 2015, God willing.

Has God spoken to you yet about contesting for the election or not?
God spoke to me about my participation in the political process, which was why I took the step in the first place. He has not said anything contrary.
