Pictured: Man who discovered Ebola says he can sit next to infected person

The scientist who helped discover the Ebola virus has said he would sit next to an infected patient on the London Underground and that the outbreak in West Africa was unlikely to trigger a major global pandemic.

Professor Peter Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, told AFP that a lack of trust in authorities in West Africa had contributed to the world's largest ever outbreak of the pathogen.

The former executive director of the United Nations HIV/AIDS programme UNAIDS said he did not believe the virus would give rise to a major pandemic, even if an infected person flew to Europe or the US.

Mystery as ‘lake’ appears in middle of Tunisian desert and becomes overnight tourist attraction [Photo]

No explanation has been given for the sudden appearance of “Gafsa Beach”, which was discovered by shepherds three weeks ago.
Authorities have warned that the water, which started off a crystalline blue and has since turned a murky green with algae, could be carcinogenic but Tunisians have not been able to resist cooling off in the 40C heat.
More than 600 people are believed to have flocked to the pool, locally dubbed “Lac de Gafsa”, where they have paddled, scuba dived, launched themselves off rocks and relaxed on lilos.
“Some say that it is a miracle, while others are calling it a curse,” journalist Lakhdar Souid told France 24.

A 10 year old girl has been arrested along side with others by security forces on suspicion of belonging to Nigeria-based extremists, collectively known as Boko Haram.

According to the information provided by Coordinator of National Information Centre, NIC, Mike Omerri, a suspicious car, Honda CRV, with suspected Boko Haram members was stopped by security forces in Katsina state. The people in the car included one adult male; one teenage girl aged 18 and one underage girl aged 10.

During the arrest operation the older suspects tried to flee the scene in the vehicle, but failed and subsequently were detained. The child, simply identified Hadiza, was discovered to have been strapped to an explosive belt, Mr. Omerri claims.

The chilling trend of deploying young women and girls as bombers comes three-and-half months after Boko Haram attack on a girls’ secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, where it kidnapped approximately 300 girls in the northeast. Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau also promised to convert the girls in Islam and "sell them in the market, by Allah.
